A precious and rare turtle released into marine environment

Fisheries officers release the turtle into the sea

Earlier, at 6 a.m. on March 21, Mr. Nguyen Van Tu in Dien Loc hamlet, Phu Dien commune (Phu Vang district) found the turtle trapped in the fishing net, when he was spreading out the net at the seaside.

The marine turtle is identified as an individual from the family of Olive ridley sea turtle, with the scientific name of Chelonia mydas. The turtle is 57 centimeters long, 35 centimeters wide, and it weighs 9.5 kilograms. The turtle's shell has an oval shape, which is flat, brown, veined, and in good condition. The olive ridley sea turtle is a precious sea turtle in the Red Book of Vietnam, which is at EN level and requiring preservation.
