TTH.VN - The Center for creatures rescue, conservation and development of Bach Ma National Park has just received and released an impressed tortoise (Manouria impressa) from Mr. Le Van Manh, the volunteer of the Asian Turtle Conservation program, residing in Hue city.

The Center for creatures rescue, conservation and development receives the impressed tortoise from the resident

This tortoise was found and handed over to Mr. Manh when it was crawling into the garden of a resident living in Phuoc Ninh ward, Hai Chau district, Da Nang city.

Through inspection, the tortoise was defined as a male, weighing 2kg and being in a good health. The Center for creatures rescue, conservation and development in collaboration with the Forest Protection Department of Bach Ma National Park released the tortoise back to the natural environment.

The impressed tortoise is returned safe to the natural environment

The impressed tortoise is known as three-tailed tortoise because it has 2 spurs in the 2 rear legs that resemble tails. This is a rare species often kept as a favorite pet. As a result, the number of this species in the wild is declining and classified as Vulnerable (VU) in Vietnam Red Book 2007 and the Red Data List (IUCN, 2013).
