Understanding digital conversion correctly

In the current trend of information technology’s  explosive development, enterprises are currently facing the problem of digital transformation for sustainable development. However, many business owners do not fully understand this trend, hence still face many difficult barriers in terms of cost, technology, human resources with digital skills, and information technology background, etc., in the production and business system.

At the conference on implementing science and technology work in 2022, Mr. Nguyen Kim Tung, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, shared that in the enterprise model, in order to successfully carry out the digital transformation, the executive board of the enterprise, especially the heads, must really pay attention to it, considering it a tool to change their business model. Digital transformation must be led from the top down direction and "understood completely" by each person in the enterprise.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Tung stated that the businesses that want to successfully carry out digital transformation must shape strategies of various levels and asymptotes in 6 groups, namely, digital experience for customers, building a digital transformation strategy, focusing on digital technology infrastructure, operating and transforming digitally the business culture, assets and information data.

According to Dr. Cung Trong Cuong, Director of the Provincial Development Research Institute, currently, Thua Thien Hue in particular and the whole country, in general, are promoting the recovery process after the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is important to conduct the digital transformation in order to promote the recovery of socio-economic development, exploit new growth motives on the basis of improving productivity, effectiveness, quality and economic competitiveness, creating a foundation for the development of the digital economy and digital society.

Therefore, the first business plan for the current situation should be determining what the strategies and purposes of the enterprise are. Another thing is that businesses must have available resources to do. Those resources are assets, tools, technology, and production lines. Besides, businesses have to know which resources are necessary to be prioritized first.

When the resources are available, it is vital to have people to work on it; and these people should be the right staffs to work towards the goals set by the business. In particular, it should be noted that the issues of digital transformation is not whether they are a matter of necessity, but it is a compulsory object in the current context. Digital transformation is not about the tools but the mindset which should be firstly derived from the leaders.

Actively "digitizing" the data

In recent years, digital transformation has made remarkable progress. Many businesses know how to seize opportunities, gradually apply software solutions to production and business management, distribution and marketing of product, or create new products and services to meet changes in consumers’ behavior as well as business administration needs.

For example, Thua Thien Hue Power Company actively implements digital transformation programs in three key areas. Specifically, the company try to raise the awareness of officials and employees, especially the managers, about digital transformation to create a transformation from thinking to action. Moreover, the company conducts the digital transformation in business processes, simplifying procedures, improving transparency and efficiency and digital transformation of electricity grid automation technology and information storage.

Up to now, the company has invested heavily in the automatic monitoring and control system of the power grid, applying telemetry technologies which help monitor the operating status of equipment online, promoting the application of hot-repair technologies to the power grid, etc., to leave an impression being the most convenient service for customers.

Mr. Duong Tuan Anh, Chairman of the Provincial Business Association shared that in the current period, digital transformation is an inevitable trend, and businesses cannot stay out of the "digital" flow in the context of integration, especially after the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, businesses need to actively prepare factors to help promote digital transformation, including cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and the internet of things, etc.

The digitization of data is important. Therefore, evaluating the internal information processing process and the management system in a suitable order is the first thing to do when conducting the digital transformation in the enterprise. This requires business leaders and specialized departments to be determined and proactive in understanding and raising awareness, thereby properly understanding and effectively implementing the  digital transformation.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duong Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communication, via catching the reality in enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, it is necessary to proactively identify and build management and operation  models in the digital environment. Particularly, it is necessary to assess the level of readiness and data for the digital transformation and find out the issues that need supplementing and completing for building a data platform suitable for enterprises so that they can operate and exploit technology infrastructure and databases effectively.

With the recent impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers' preferences for shopping and service experiences have changed a lot. This requires that local businesses need to be proactive to have suitable plans for business, human resource management, and information technology application in production - business and marketing processes, etc., to adapt to the situation. In particular, businesses should consider online sales channels, connecting appropriate goods distribution and supply units.

“Since digital transformation is a process, if any businesses are ready to adapt and change early, they will have many breakthroughs to develop faster, and have more competitive advantages", said Mr. Nguyen Duong Anh.
