The plan for reception

Dr. Nguyen Cong Hao, Head of Training and Student Affairs Department of Hue University, said that the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected overseas Vietnamese students and international students. Currently, many overseas Vietnamese students return home and wish to continue their studies at the higher education institutions in Vietnam.

“The Ministry of Education and Training also sent a dispatch to the higher education institutions on receiving overseas Vietnamese students and international students who do not continue their studies abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On that basis, Hue University also develops the plan for reception in the coming time,” said the representative of Hue University's Training and Student Affairs Department.

In order to admit overseas Vietnamese students and international students, Hue University establishes the council to consider the applicants with the requirements:  they wish to continue studying in the international training program taught in English, joint training programs with foreign countries in accordance with the training capacity of the member universities, faculties and branch of Hue University.

Simultaneously, overseas Vietnamese students and international students must meet the entry requirements not lower than the eligibility ones of the corresponding training programs of the member universities, departments and branch of Hue University in the same year of enrolment.

According to Dr. Nguyen Cong Hao, upon reception, Hue University will examine the students in both foreign language and technical knowledge. After reception, based on the output standard, content and requirements of the training program at member units, faculties of Hue University and the number of credits, learning content, learning results that overseas Vietnamese students and international students accumulate during their studies at foreign educational institutions, Hue University will consider the exemption and reduction of credits and modules for students according to the current regulations.

However, for credit recognition to be considered, the foreign training disciplines must be suitable for the group of disciplines that Hue University is training.

Currently, Hue University issued the notice in Vietnamese and foreign languages to students, especially those who have returned home. At the same time, it carries out the application receipt procedures for overseas Vietnamese students and international students, who wish to continue their studies at the higher education institutions in Vietnam

Responding to the training

One of the issues of great concern to overseas Vietnamese students and international students is that the foreign and domestic training programs are incompatible. However, the representatives of many higher education institutions said that it is still possible to respond to the training.

Phan Thanh Tien, MSc, Deputy Head of Training Department, University of Foreign Languages, Hue University said that when receiving overseas Vietnamese students and international students who meet the requirements set out by Hue University, based on the foreign training program, there will be the way to convert, ensure the amount of knowledge and skills for learners.

According to Dr. Nguyen Quang Lich, in charge of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Hue University, in the educational system, of course, each university will develop the training programs in a different direction; the foreign and Vietnamese training programs will certainly not be altogether the same.

However, it is possible to be flexibly based on the program that overseas Vietnamese students and international students learnt abroad to redesign appropriately, ensuring that they can respond to the foreign training programs on returning abroad after their study in Vietnam for 1-2 years.

The plus is that at present, many new programs aim to connect with foreign partners for university alliance programs. Both sides can award degrees, so students studying in the United Kingdom and the United States can still learn this program.

According to the representative of Hue University's Student Affairs and Training Department, receiving not only Vietnamese students but also foreign students, Hue University is ready for the plan to translate training programs to meet the learning requirements of overseas Vietnamese students and international students while studying in Vietnam. Training time can be arranged depending on the positive development of the pandemic. It is important, before training, to review all relevant conditions.
