Running tournament for Wildlife Conservation

Vietnam is recognized as one of the 16 countries with the highest biodiversity in the world with about 51,400 organisms, including about 10,900 species of terrestrial animals, 20,000 species of terrestrial and aquatic plants, and 2,000 species of invertebrates animals and freshwater fish, more than 11,000 other marine species and 7,500 strains of microorganisms.

Hello Bach Ma

The “Running tournament for Wildlife Conservation” at Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien Hue province was held on Sunday, March 5, 2023 with the scale of more than 500 athletes participating in 3 races, including 3km, 13km and 33km distances. The running tournament aimed to contribute to raise awareness on the conservation of wildlife and biodiversity of Vietnam, thereby reducing and ending the consumption of venison and wildlife products in nature.

The magnificent space of Bach Ma national forest had attracted runners. They all had a great experience with Hue. Excellent is the overall feeling of the athletes. They feel love for nature, wildlife more and realize the need to preserve a clean green environment like a lung of nature.

Biodiversity plays an important role in the existence and development of people and the environment. However, the illegal hunting, catching, trading and consumption of wild animals are increasing, causing many species to face the risk of serious population decline and extinction. At its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared March 3 every year as World Wildlife Day.

This date was chosen because it is the birth date of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) signed in 1973. Vietnam is one of the countries that have signed and implemented this Convention since 1994. World Wildlife Day 2023 is also the occasion to celebrate the 50th birthday of CITES.
