Software “Doctor for every home” for telemedicine implemented

On November 10, the Ministry of Health, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Consulate of Japan in Da Nang kicked off the implementation of a telemedicine consultation program at the grassroots medical level, using software “Doctor for every home” in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak and Ca Mau provinces.

In Thua Thien Hue, the event was attended by Ms. Ramla Khalidi, UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam; Mr. Shimonishi Kiyoshi, Deputy Consulate General of Japan in Da Nang; Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health; Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee and representatives of relevant agencies.

The software “Doctor for every home” has been co-developed by UNDP and the Information Technology Department, Ministry of Health since December 2020, deployed in 537 medical units of Ha Giang, Bac Kan and Lang Son. In the implementation phase in 5 provinces, it is expected that more than 2,000 health workers at more than 800 grassroots medical units will be trained and connected to provide telemedicine services. About 7 million people benefit from the telemedicine program from consultation to treatment.

Based on the web platform and smartphone application, the solution for telemedicine at the grassroots medical level helps people in remote areas access quality medical examination and treatment services at the locality, helping district and commune health workers be able to consult colleagues to improve their professional capacity during treatment.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong said that this activity contributed to helping the locality to soon complete the roadmap for Digital Transformation of the health sector in particular and the National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with orientation to 2030 of the Government in the province in general. The province will direct the health sector to effectively deploy the software “Doctor for every home”, to ensure that people can contact doctors quickly and efficiently, reduce costs and travel time; create conditions for people to use quality medical services of the upper level right at the lower level medical facilities in the spirit of the Ministry of Health on the project “Remote medical examination and treatment”.

This activity is within the framework of the project “Strengthening COVID-19 response through enhancing access to vaccines and health systems” funded by the Government of Japan. The project provides information technology equipment for 5 provinces, including a server located at the provincial Department of Health, 15 sets of desktop computers, cameras, and speakerphones for 15 commune health stations, and at the same time organizes training sessions on using and deploying remote medical examination and treatment consultation with the application of the software “Doctor for every home”.

Immediately after the kick-off ceremony, Duong Hoa commune Health Station connected with Huong Thuy town Medical Center, exchanged treatment plans for bee sting allergy for a patient with the software “Doctor for everyone”.
