Reopening skill playgrounds for students in Hue

Diversifying skill playgrounds

At the end of March 2022, over 2.000 students from the University of Education, Hue University and Thuan Hoa High School got a chance to mix themselves with the program “Skill Festival – Hue University of Education” 2022. With several activities, competitions, and folk games, etc., this playground not only was held for fun but  also created many opportunities for students to exchange and learn from each other, especially practicing their skills.

Nguyen Thi Thuy Tien, a student from the university said: “My friends and I have learned many skills, from the skills of presentation, of standing in front of the crowds to skills in doing collaboration and teamwork”.

Along with the University of Education, other universities in Hue have also reopened activities and skill playgrounds with the organization frequency and the scale of skill activities having been expanded since the mid of March, when most of the students have been stable with their offline study and the fields have also been gradually adapted with the new normal. The skill playgrounds are organized at various levels, from the level of university, the levels of youth union – student union, the level of faculty to the level of club and teams. 

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuong Du, President of the Student Union of the University of Science, Hue University, integrating into the skill playgrounds, the student union also holds many games at all scales, team building activities, and other competitions to both develop the members’ creativity, individual skills and require the cohesion and skill of teamwork. The games are designed following the form of playing for learning, playing for practicing skills, hence promoting the efficiency.

The playgrounds to improve students’ knowledge and skills

Notably, at present, the clubs, teams, and groups have carried out various skill activities. Mr. Le Chi Hung Cuong, M.A., President of Hue University Student Union said that there are nearly 200 clubs, teams, and groups under the management of Hue University and other universities. They do not only re-operate regularly but also implement normal-rule contents; the clubs, teams, and groups also expand their activities and renew their skill playgrounds.

At present, one of the popular trends being done by a great number of clubs, teams, and groups is combining skill-camping, picnic activities with environmental cleaning, connecting with the localities. Whenever planning the programs which are beyond the scope of universities, the clubs, teams, and groups collaborate with the localities and local union members to pick up trash, cleaning the beaches or destinations, integrating the work of sharing necessary messages and skills.

Diversifying students’ skills

Universities’ representatives admitted that one of the things that many businesses and recruitment units suggest students to improve is skill. This is one of the four important factors, contributing to the success are thinking – knowledge – skills– tools.

Therefore, in addition to the lessons and skills taught and trained at schools, many opportunities are being created by the training units to improve the weakness of skills for students, especially through the activities of unions, clubs, teams, and groups.

According to Mr. Le Chi Hung Cuong, M.A., nowadays, the activities which are directed towards are not only the union activities and the skill of adminstering and organizing activities, but also expanded to many other skills meeting the output demands and the requirement of labor market, in which mainly focusing on the soft skills such as presentation, self-positioning skills, problem-solving skills, and teamwork, etc.

At present, universities also offer many solutions, put many skill lessons into the training programs and open various skill playgrounds associated with subject specialization. At the same time, the universities also invite the representatives from the businesses and recruiters and experts to the universities to share, making the orientation and provide information on the skills needed for students so that they can meet the work demand after graduation.
